Boost Productivity by Translating Thoughts from the Brain to Reality

How can you boost productivity when our brains are overwhelmed and a messy jumble of thousands of thoughts hails daily?

Plenty of these thoughts are merely distracted thinking, such as pondering what we’ll make for dinner, what will happen next in that TV show we’ve been watching, or where we should buy new clothes.

How do we Spend Most of Our Time?

We spend 47% of our waking hours thinking about something other than what we’re doing.

As a result, our work can suffer, and we are less productive because we are not dialed into the task.

Some of these unfinished thoughts are caused by distractions, which can cost us up to 2.1 hours per workday if left unchecked.

Task switching and multitasking can also derail a person’s thought process by making them rapidly adjust the flow of their thoughts.

What are the Effects on Productivity?

This can translate to losing about 40% of a person’s productive time.

Procrastination is one of the most significant drivers of unfinished thinking.

It occurs when someone puts off a task because they are unwilling to begin.

This is often due to task aversion, low energy, perfectionism, and low self-confidence.

While these unfinished or distracted thoughts might not necessarily be helpful for the email we’re trying to write, plenty of thoughts might be beneficial.

The cost of not capturing these thoughts meaningfully can be high. Goals are less likely to be accomplished by about 42%.

If thoughts are not consistently captured, you’ll be less fulfilled and happy with your writing. It’ll also take longer to complete tasks.

Writing in some form (such as emails) usually takes workers more than 11+ hours per week.

Succinctly capturing thoughts can help to speed up this process and boost productivity.

How to Capture Your Thoughts and Boost Productivity

There are several ways to capture these thoughts. The most traditional method, the go-to option for most people, is the handy pen and paper.

Scribbling thoughts down in a notebook is convenient in a hurry.

However, these notes are limited to the notebook itself- meaning if the notebook is damaged or lost, your thoughts will be gone too.

Typing into a notes app on a smartphone or computer is also a very common method.

It is faster than pen and pencil but can also be time-consuming and distracting.

Transcriptions and AI content-creator tools are now the most technologically advanced ways to jot down thoughts and boost productivity.

Both offer convenience and accessibility at the expense of losing the integrity of the thought itself.
