5 Effective Link Building Strategies

Link Building is one of the most essential aspects of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and content marketing in general.

More quality backlinks to your website will boost your ranking as well as increase your traffic.

Meanwhile, earning quality backlinks can be difficult, especially when your website is still new. You will either spend a lot of money to get them or be aggressive with your content marketing effort.

So today, I will be teaching you five effective link-building strategies for both new and authoritative websites.

But before that…

What Is Link Building?

Link building is the art of securing links from another website (backlinks) back to your website to boost your website authority.

To Google, each backlink serves as a vote of trust in your website. Thus, 100 backlinks equal 100 votes of confidence.

However, it is no longer about the number of backlinks but the quality.

Yes, the current backlink game is quality over quantity. One quality backlink is greater than 100 low-quality or spammy backlinks.

Also, low-quality backlinks will cause more harm than good to your website.

High-quality backlinks pass the best link juice (value). Some of its qualities include links that are :

  • Acquired naturally
  • Come from a reputable website
  • Relevant to your website
  • Do follow

So, let’s examine the five effective link-building strategies. Your approach to link building will determine the quality of the links you get.

Outreach

A straightforward method to get a backlink from a website is by reaching out and requesting it. Meanwhile, you need to ensure that you have a linkable asset to be considered, and this linkable asset must:

  • Be related to the website
  • Provide value to its users
  • Be interesting

Such assets can take the form of infographics, blog posts, online tools, and more.

However, the question is, ‘Where can I find a website for outreach?’

You can reach out to already-ranking websites related to your linkable asset. It could be a blog or those websites already linking to your competitors.

Tools like Moz, SEMrush, and Ahrefs can assist you with extracting your competitors’ backlinks.

If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, consider exploring an Ahrefs alternative that offers similar functionality for tracking backlinks and improving your SEO strategy.

You can analyse their link profile with any of these tools and then transfer the links to an Excel file for review.

Below is a backlink outreach template that you can use:

‘Hi, John,

I just read your blog post on ’10 tools to convert speech to text,’ and I wondered if you could include us in your list?

We provide free speech-to-text service for writers, students, and others who find our helpful service. You can visit our about page to learn more.

Broken Link Building Strategy

You can earn backlinks by searching for broken links on other websites and then asking the website owner to replace them with a similar page on your website.

It will be a win-win because you helped the website replace a broken link and receive a link back to your website. Meanwhile, broken links are very bad for websites, affecting user experience.

Below are two methods to find broken backlinks.

Use SEO Spyglass Tool

This tool is primarily used to perform backlink analysis. Filter the results by:

  • Linkback – Do follow
  • Linked Page Status Code – 404 not found

After applying the filter, a list of broken backlinks and their providers will appear.

You can then visit the fractured link page to see if your website has a similar page that needs replacement.

If so, you can reach out to the backlink provider. If not, then you can create a new post for replacement.

Use Website Auditor

You can use this link-assistant tool to analyze any website for broken links. Then, you contact the website and say you have a replacement offer. Visit the Site Structure > Site Audit > Links > Broken links module.

Submit Guest Posts

Guest Posts boost brand authority and drive traffic to your website, but they can also be a great link-building strategy.

All you need to do is find websites that accept guest posts in your niche, read their guest post guidelines, meet their terms, and pitch to them.

Your guest post content should contain a link back to your website.

Meanwhile, you should take note of the following before submitting your guest post:

  • Ensure that you get a do-follow backlink from the website.
  • The website should be more authoritative than yours. Some third-party tools can compare your website’s domain authority with that of the guest post website.
  • Avoid submitting guest posts to websites with a high spam score.
  • Ensure that the website is indexed on Google.

You can find guest post opportunities by typing the following on Google:

  • Niche + “guest post by”
  • Keyword + “write for us”
  • Keyword + “contribute to our website”
  • Keyword + “guest article”

Curate Industry Statistics

You can create a hub for relevant statistics in your industry to build backlinks organically.

Content creators do need these statistics to back up their data-driven content. And when they do, they ensure that they link back to the original source.

You don’t necessarily need your own data, as you can also compile other researched data to create yours.

Many website owners have used this method to attract backlinks from authoritative websites. So, you should give it a try too.

Do Something News-Worthy

This is another interesting link-building strategy in which you do things that make your website appear on news websites.

When a news website wants to report your events, it will link back to the source. So, you can do the following activities to appear on the news and publications:

  • Host an event.
  • Create a unique solution
  • Make partnership announcements.
  • Offer scholarships.

Conclusion

Now that you know the five link-building strategies that work, the next step is to put them to practice to achieve your desired result.

Meanwhile, you should ensure that you share this article with colleagues online who might find these strategies helpful.
