How to Create Engaging Videos Using InVideo

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that you must include video content in your digital marketing strategy.

One of the biggest reasons business and marketing professionals have not jumped on the video marketing bandwagon is that they assume it is too expensive, takes too much time, and requires high-level expertise.

However, with online video creation tools, like InVideo, the learning curve is reduced significantly, and the cost is very reasonable.

Below are the steps to start creating your first video with InVideo.

Sign up for an Account

The first step is to set up an account on Invideo. Go to InVideo.io and click on the “sign-up for free” button.

You will be asked a few questions, such as What defines your role best?

You can also add team members if you want to on the following screen or skip this step for now.

Before you get to your dashboard, Invideo will ask you a few more questions:

  • How did you hear about InVideo?
  • What is your primary goal in using InVideo to create videos?
  • For which platform do you primarily create videos?

After answering those questions, you will see your dashboard where the fun begins.

Understanding Your InVideo Dashboard

You will see many options from your dashboard, including prompts and discounts for upgrading.

However, before upgrading to a paid version of any software, I highly recommend testing the free version first.

So, for now, I suggest you “x” out of the offers and discount pop-ups to make the page less distracting.

In the top left-hand corner of your dashboard, next to the InVideo logo, click on the down arrow next to “learn.”

Your options are Blog, Instagram inspiration, tutorials, and YouTube channel.

Remember these as you navigate the program, especially the tutorials.

They are part of InVideo’s Help Center and can come in handy as you learn to use the program.

Creating Your First Video or Project

You are now ready to get started creating your first video. Hover over the “create” button, and you will see four options: Templates, AI text to video, Stock media, and Editor.

For this tutorial, let’s choose “template.”

InVideo templates

Notice that there are various sizes available for you to use. Use the left navigation to narrow down your choices.

Under “Filters”, “Aspect Ratio”, select “Landscape so we can create a video for Your YouTube channel.

You can also choose a “Type” of video. Let’s use “Promos”, and under the “Industry” filter, select “Technology”.

By using filters, your choices are reduced from 3790 results, which is overwhelming, to 157 results, a much easier number of templates to review and choose.

Choose Your Template

If you hover your mouse over each template, it will scroll through the video so you can get an idea of what is in it.

Let’s choose the “YouTube Monetization Listicle” template. Select it by clicking on it.

The template will play out for you to get an idea of how to customize it.

Next, click “Use this template”. If you are using Firefox, which I tend to do, you will see a message that says: “Your browser is not fully compatible with InVideo. Download Google Chrome for the best experience.”

Sometimes there is an issue with Firefox, and other times, there is not.

When I have problems, I switch over to Google Chrome. You might want to start out using Chrome.

Understanding and Customizing the Template

Notice the three options on the top of the dashboard: storyboard, editor, and collaborate. The image above is the editor mode.

Here is where you can add your logo to the top right-hand corner of the scene.

Click on the + sign over “Logo”, find your logo on your hard drive, and double-click on it to upload it to InVideo.

It will automatically be added to your “uploads” section and who up in your video slide as shown below:

The right-hand side shows the different elements as they currently exist.

You will see their location in your video slide if you click on each of them.

The bottom of the editor shows you the timeline. It includes the five scenes with selected times for this template, an audio file, and a place to add scenes or a voiceover.

Move the cursor to the beginning of the timeline to play the video.

If there is an element you don’t like, you can click on it and then hit the “delete” button on your computer.

However, with the free version of InVideo, you cannot remove their watermark logo.

You can also add uploads, videos, images, music, text, logo (as described above) and elements using the left-hand side navigation.

Other things you can do include changing the template, modifying images, and more. Note that some of these are either limited in scope or not available with a free subscription.

The possibilities and customizations are endless.

Keeping Things Simple

For our purposes, let’s keep everything as is in the video except the text. To edit the text, click on “storyboard” at the top of the editor.

You will now see an additional icon called “Script.” Click on it to change the text in the video.

We are going to keep the title as “3 Ways to make money on YouTube” but will change the three ways to the following:

  • Join the YouTube Partner Program
  • Become an Affiliate Marketer
  • Offer Memberships

To edit the text, select the slide you want to change. In our case, click on slide #2, as we are keeping the title the same.

When you click on a slide, the text is highlighted in blue.

edit slide 2

Replace “Earn with ads” with “Join the YouTube Partner Program”.

Let’s remove the second text box to make the video more concise.

To remove the text, click inside the box where it appears and delete it.

Note that you can move the boxed headline around with your cursor if you want it in a different place.

Let’s do the same with the next two slides, replace our text with what is currently there, and remove the second text box.

When I got to slide number four, our text “Offer Memberships” didn’t fit inside the blue box. So, I moved the text around to enlarge the blue box.

Notice that when you are in the Storyboard section of the template, you can also edit the font type, font size, alignment, spacing, and so much more.

Review the Video in the Editor

Now let’s review the changes we made to our video by clicking “editor” at the top of the screen and playing the video.

How Can I Download My Video?

Unfortunately, you can only download your video on a paid plan. However, you can and should preview it to see if you like what you created.

After you have tried different templates, various customizations and like what you have created, you can upgrade to a monthly or yearly plan based on your needs!

The free account comes with the following:

  • 6000+ Video Templates
  • 3M+ Standard Media Library
  • AI Script Generator
  • Automated Text to Speech
  • Collaborate with Team

Create PRO social media videos in minutes

Use the free version for a while and test out other features we haven’t covered in this tutorial, such as my favorite, the “Automated text to Speech” function.

You can always start with one month of the business plan for $15/month. For that $15, you get:

  • No Watermark on Videos
  • 60 HD Video Exports/per month
  • ten iStock Media/month
  • 1M+ Premium Media
  • 20 Remove Background/month
  • 7-day money-back guarantee

That is not a bad investment and certainly worth it if you want to create your own videos.

My Take on InVideo

InVideo is one of my go-to video creators of choice. It has many templates and available customizations that can keep one busy for weeks.

There are several voiceover options, and many don’t sound as robotic as other programs.

However, let’s face it. AI-generated voices will never sound as human as real ones, but they work.

My one gripe is with the stock videos. There aren’t as many free ones as I would like. So, I often use my subscription to Storyblocks and upload my videos to InVideo.
